From almost 14,000 feet up in the air to a few feet below sea level, we explored the Big Island from top to bottom.  The famous observatories are at 13,800 feet, clouds a few thousand feet lower.  K-bay is where Captain Cook was killed in 1779.  It’s also a great snorkeling site and home to a couple pods of friendly spinner dolphins. The coral reef hosts large schools of bright yellow tangs who sway in the currents like birch leaves in the fall.
